Tips for Choosing the Perfect Granite

Monday, 19 February 2018 by MeesTileConnect

Whether you’re picking out granite for your home remodel or selecting stone for a new build, color selection is important. As one of the largest granite importers in Kentucky we know a thing or two about selecting the right granite slabs. Here are a few things you should consider:

Lighting

When choosing granite for a room, analyze the lighting. Dark granite is an excellent choice for rooms with a lot of natural light, or if you’re concerned about dirt showing. Speckled stone and lighter granite go well in smaller rooms. Factor in the size of the room with the amount of light. This is important because dark stone can make rooms appear smaller.

Say Yes to Samples

Although small granite samples may not authentically represent the entire granite slab, bring a few to your home and view them against your floors and cabinetry along with the lighting. Bringing a stone into its potential setting is a beneficial way to see how it ties in all elements of a room.

Bring Materials to the Showrooms

When visiting our showrooms to make granite selections, bring samples of your wooden cabinets, flooring, and paint colors. Take photos in different lighting and bring them to the store. Also consider additional items like appliances, window treatments and furniture. Remember, no two stones are the same. Depending on the slab, some colors may be lighter or darker, which may sway a decision. Our Showrooms allow you to see variations in the stone to make a selection.Don’t forget, at Mees, our fabrication department will create custom slabs for your project and the best part is when placing an order you only pay for the amount you need. Visit our showrooms today to view our assortment of stone.

Top Color Choices in Granite

Thursday, 25 January 2018 by MeesTileConnect
jan 25- Granite colors at Mees Tile & Marble
Have you officially decided on granite for your new home or remodel? Granite adds personality and character as no two stones are the same. However, selecting a color is just as important as the type of stone itself. From your kitchen to your bathroom, we dive into the most popular granite color choices.
White granite at Mees Tile & Marble

White Granite

White granite is classic and timeless. Use white granite in smaller rooms to create an illusion of a larger room that’s bright and airy. White stone pairs well with an array of cabinets from dark, which will lend a more contemporary look to light for an all around fresh, refined look. A few white granite samples from our selection include Salinas, Gran Perla, Kashmir, Bianco Royal and Delicatus.

Black granite at Mees Tile & Marble

Black Granite

Give any room dramatic flair with black. Black granite creates a sense of depth and enhances other colors in the surrounding space like walls or backsplash. It pairs well with white or lighter wood cabinets, and looks great with stainless steel appliances. Another perk? It doesn’t show all the dirt and grime. Check out Negro Angola, Magma, Via Lactea, Black Galaxy and Black Absolute from our selection.

Tan granite at Mees Tile & Marble

Brown + Beige

Brown and beige are the most popular colors and offer a more traditional look in the kitchen or bath. Its neutrality gives more decorating options and flexibility as it matches well with both light or dark cabinetry. Shades of brown help tie all wood together, creating a classic and warm look, perfect for a rustic country home. A few of our brown and beige samples include Santa Cecilia, Brown Antique, New Venetian, Nettuno Bordeaux and Sienna Beige.

As we’re about to ring in the new year, many are wondering what new patterns and colors will be in for 2018. If you’re a new home buyer or renovating a living space, check out these styling ideas. .
Terrazzo

Try Terrazzo

Terrazzo is making a comeback next year, and subway tile is taking a backseat. The versatility of this stone makes it perfect for both floors and walls. Its small grains are a change-up from the colorblock tiles we saw trending earlier this year. (Photo via Apartment Therapy)

patchwork

Choose Patchwork

Mixing and matching asymmetrical placements of patterned designs and solid tile are sure to be a hit. Never boring, this style will keep any room looking fresh. (Photo via Ideal Home)

hexagons

Hooray for Hexagons

Multicolored hexagons in addition to the “unfinished” tile look create dimension. This shape has been popular in 2017, and we expect it to be just as popular in 2018, whether the size be small or on the larger side. (Photo via Bathroomist)

blue not black

Blue, not Black

As for the color this year, blue is said to be the new black, especially in bathrooms. It’s a soothing color, that looks great against any kind of wood. (Photo via Domino )

Textured Tile

This year we’re thankful for the “slate split face tiles.” These are natural slate strips of different sizes, staggered together to create a rugged space. Not only is this mosaic great for bathrooms or kitchens, but it’s a popular choice for fireplace renovations. (Photo via Walls & Floors)

3 dimensional squares

A Simple Shape

We’re thankful for diamonds, even the ones without bling. The diamond tile is a simple shape that can be arranged to create many different looks, including the ever popular cube. With the right choice of color, diamond tile creates an illusion of depth in even the smallest of rooms. (Photo via Apartment Diet )

There’s nothing better than having a warm, inviting home. As the weather cools we’ve rounded up four ways you can use tile to create a cozier home..

Choose Cream

We all love that beautiful bright white subway tile, but sometimes it can come across a bit cold. Solution: Swap out stark white tile for cream to add a touch of warmth. (Photo via @fireclaytile)

Shower

Mother of Pearl

Looking for something unique? Mother of Pearl tile brings in tones of tans, greys and golds, creating a look that’s as inviting as it is luxurious. (Photo via Decor Pad)

Kitchen

Vary Your Tile

Having fun with patterns communicates a sense of warmth all in its own. By avoiding a one-dimensional look you can actually add character to a room. We love the idea of using two different tile shapes to frame out your backsplash.  (Photo via BHG)

Tile + Wood Accents

Anytime you incorporate mixed finishes you are bound to get a cozier feel. Combine tile with wood accents whether that’s wooden frames in a living room setting or open shelving in your kitchen. (Photo via Sabbe)

Design Inspiration: Stone Countertop + Tile Combos

Wednesday, 27 September 2017 by Mees Tile
Granite uses in kitchen countertops, bathroom vanities, mini bar countertops, and desk nooks
Over the years stone, especially granite, has become a staple in the kitchen. Why? Because it’s equally as durable as it is beautiful. Take your stone countertops to the next level by pairing them with showstopping tile. See below for some of our favorite inspiration.
Cool and Modern

Cool + Modern

Love the look of gray and white granite? Pairing it with a sleek glass tile gives your home a modern feel. Finish off the look with stainless steel appliances and silver hardware to continue the cool tones throughout your kitchen. (Photo via@artisansignaturehomes)

Granite Warm

Warm + Homey

A warm, cream granite with flecks of earth tones pairs well with white cabinets. Add a brick backsplash, or a tile that mimics brick, to bring the outdoors in. (Photo via @driggers_reed_construction)

Granite used in unique fashion

Unique + Elegant

A rich classic black and white quartzite countertop paired with a uniquely tiled backsplash adds a sense of modern elegance. We love this mix of herringbone and subway tile as it’s both subtle and eye-catching.  (Photo via @homebunch)

Granite in muted colors

Muted + Patterned

If you have your heart set on a patterned tile backsplash, install a muted quartzite like this option. The subtle gray tones pair nicely with the more busy black and white tile. (Photo via @homebunch)

The Best Uses of Granite in Your Home

Thursday, 21 September 2017 by Mees Tile

The list of why you should add granite to your home is endless – stain resistant, fade-resistant, and hassle-free to name a few. If you’re thinking about granite in your home, here are four areas to consider.

Kitchen Countertops

Having granite countertops in the kitchen is a no-brainer. Not only can you sit hot pots on them, but once you seal them, they’re stain-resistant. This means you don’t have to worry when the tomato sauce splashes or your little one spills juice. (Photo via Houzz)

Mini Wet Bar

A wine fridge and few cabinets are all it takes to turn an empty wall into a mini wet bar. Add a small slab of granite and your wine bar turns elegant instantly.  It doesn’t hurt that granite can usually withstand wine spills. (Photo via Home Stratosphere)

Desk Nook

Wooden desks get scraped and scratched, and don’t forget about the ring left by your morning cup of joe. Swap out wood for granite for a low-maintenance, but beautiful desk. (Photo via Atkinson Drive)

Bathroom Vanity

From toothpaste remnance to makeup spills, bathroom countertops see their fair share of messes. Solution: Add granite countertops to keep your bathroom in tip-top condition. (Photo via Decor Crave)
