A World of Design Options
Take on Tall Backsplashes

Backsplashes used to be purely functional, but are now key design elements in homes. For 2019 we’re seeing higher-end kitchens opt for tall backsplashes to really make a statement with tile and stone. We take you through a few looks to consider if you want to add a touch of glamour to your kitchen this year.

Let the light shine.
The right lighting with a full slab of stone, can make your tall backsplash feel like a work of art. We love the rich tones in this kitchen not to mention the elegant island.
Ceiling high tile.
When your backsplash extends all the way to the ceiling you can get creative and have it frame your hood, your windows and cabinets providing a look that really ties the kitchen together.
Shelf height.
If a ceiling-high backsplash is too much consider for your taste, consider taking the tile to the bottom of your cabinets or open-shelving. This height works especially well when using a bold pattern that may overwhelm the entire wall.

Now Trending: Dark Kitchens

From the fridge to the faucet black matte features are popping up all over the kitchen, and we’re seeing kitchens with more color overall on the rise. If you’re looking to remodel your kitchen with some dark tones, we suggest a few different tile and countertop looks.

Black, Gold + White.
A black island with matching hood is certainly a statement piece. We love the rich gold accents and expect to continue to see metallics in the kitchen this year. White subway tile and a light quartz countertop temper the drama of the black and gold.
Black matte.
Black cabinets paired with an all black countertop and black matte faucet create a modern, masucline look. To keep things clean and simple using a contrasting white backsplash and don’t be afraid to pick a tile that also has a modern feel. In this case a simple switch from rectangle to square does the trick.
Black + Wood.
While this kitchen makes a bold move to have all black countertops and backsplash, the wood cabinets provide some relief as does the metallic trim which grabs on to light. If you’re creating a dark kitchen, look for ways to bring in contrast to lighten things up.

Tiling in Small Spaces

The right tile even in a small space can make all the difference. We pull together three ways you can incorporate tile despite tight quarters.

Patterned Accent
This small and simple white bathroom is transformed with a pop of patterned tiles around the sink and backsplash. Tile is a great way to bring in color and design no matter what the size room.
Keep it bright.
If you have a small kitchen, picking out the right tile is enough to completely open up, brighten and transform the space. By using white subway tile and a white tiled floor, this room remains bright even when it’s small.
Go Big
Just because your space is small, it doesn’t mean your tile has to be. The large dark hexagonal floor tile makes a statement in this small bathroom without overwhelming it. By keeping the walls white and the grout white, the bathroom still has a bright feel, and the dark tile actually provides a nice contrast.

DIY Inspiration: Three Sink and Backsplash Combos

Have a kitchen remodel in mind for the new year? We take a look at three sink and backsplash combos for your next DIY project from clean and crisp to sophisticated high-end marble.

Clean and Crisp
A cement style farmhouse sink gives an industrial feel that works beautifully with white subway tiles in a traditional herringbone pattern. Add dark grouting to tie in the grey tones of the sink and bring the look together.
Soft and Subtle
We love the grey tones of this tiled backsplash. The hexagon tiles add an element of interest so you can go more basic with a white farmhouse sink.
Sophisticated and Stylish
One trend we’re continuing to see is an extension of the backsplash to the counter. This look carries marble throughout the design, even in the sink itself.

Kitchen Trends for 2019

A new year, bring new trends. As we enter 2019 we take a look at some of the upcoming kitchen design trends. Whether your current kitchen design needs a little revamp or you want to refresh the entire space, here are a few ideas to consider.

Open Shelving
In 2019 we will start to see people will continue to steer away from traditional upper cabinetry and switching to simple shelves. Open shelving creates an inviting kitchen space, and forces you to really stay organized.
White Meets Wood
All white kitchens warmed up with wooden accents will continue to trend in 2019. In general we’re seeing more people mix metals and materials in the kitchen giving design a fresh, unique feel that’s really personalized.
Stainless Alternatives
Another way to add interest to an all white kitchen is incorporating show stopping appliances. Whether its shiny black stainless or a matte black finish, appliance manufacturers are offering up more options than ever. Keep the contrast going with a black countertop or a matte black faucet.
Color Pop
Shades of green and blue continue to trend in the kitchen and we think Peacock is the perfect color for your cabinets or light fixtures. Balance out color with a nice, clean white tile backsplash and have some fun in 2019.

Bathroom Remodel: Three Materials to Consider

Your bathroom should be an oasis and reflect your personal style. If you’re looking to remodel your bathroom in 2019, the materials you incorporate can give your space a very different feel. From wood to marble, we take a look at the pros and cons of various building materials.

Luxurious Marble
Marble is a metamorphic rock that’s been used for thousands of years in design and often contains unique veining throughout. On the plus side, marble offers a classic, timeless feel, that brings luxury to any space. Drawbacks of marble can include a higher price point and more work after its installed. Since marble is prone to rust, it does require periodic sealing, however, we think the maintenance is well worth the elegance.
Worryfree Tile
If your remodel is on a budget, tile may be an affordable option for your bathroom makeover. The best part of tile in a bathroom is how durable and resistant to moisture it is, not to mention it’s easy to clean. With so many different colors and patterns to choose from tile can take a small space and make it vibrant and fresh.
Warming Wood
If you’re looking to warm up your bathroom or if you want a rustic feel, incorporating wood can be an option. Wood is an underrated material used in bathrooms because of humidity and moisture issues. One solution is to make sure it is properly treated, another is to opt for a porcelain tile that gives the look of wood but is easy to maintain.

Interior Design Trends- Kitchen Islands

Kitchen islands used to be simply a utilitarian extension of your kitchen, but they’ve now become a gathering place, work desk and so much more. Whether you top them with marble, quartz or granite, we take a look at different kitchen designs that are trending.

Moveable
Holiday season is approaching, do you always get the feeling that there might be too many cooks in the kitchen? The moveable island trend is perfect to rid yourself of that claustrophobic feeling and offers plenty of flexibility. We love the stone top on this kitchen island.
Oversized
Talk about the hub! People are ditching the idea of a formal dining room and bringing it all directly into the kitchen. Quartz and granite offer a durable option that’s easy to clean even with a crowd making a mess.
Waterfall
This gorgeous marble countertop is a statement piece. The waterfall effect adds a unique seamless look to the kitchen that is sure to impress.

Double
One island isn’t cutting ? Add two! Whether positioned side by side or front and back, the double island trend is becoming more and more popular especially for open concept kitchens.
